New Traits for Reproduction

NLW (Number of Lambs Weaned) ASBV (Australian Breeding Value) is used to select for reproduction however it combines many stages of the reproductive cycle. When you improve NLW you do not have the power to select which stage of the cycle you are improving. The new Research Breeding Values (RBVs) for reproduction traits were released earlier this year for Merinos. As more reproduction data comes into Sheep Genetics the RBVs will progress to ASBVs and be included in future index development.

If you would like to know more about the Reproduction RBVs please contact Sally on 0400 782 477.
