Tricks of the trade: DNA Testing

DNA testing is in full swing and will continue to be over the lambing period. Making sure your data and samples are done correctly is vital.

When sampling:

  • Aim for the centre of the ear.

  • Double punch the gun to ensure the red stopper has sealed the TSU correctly.

  • Use TSU's in chronological order - should anything go wrong this can make it easier to identify where.

  • Use the TSU blue racks to store samples once they have been taken.

When posting:

  • Ensure your samples are posted in a very secure padded post bag or box.

  • Envelopes are not suitable for posting TSU's

Being organised and having good procedures in place when sampling makes all the difference
